For HX Connect I owned the Airparks arch from design through to build — adapting a garden arch, sewing a blue spandex sleeve and applying Airparks decals to produce a branded physical structure in-house rather than commissioning it externally.
A branded arch quoted externally came back high enough to question whether the piece was worth doing at all. The alternative was to work out whether it could be made properly in-house.
Rather than building a structure from scratch, I adapted a standard garden arch as the frame — the right shape and strength already existed, which meant the problem became covering and branding it convincingly.
I sewed a blue spandex sleeve to fit the frame cleanly and applied Airparks decals, producing a finish that read as a purpose-built branded structure rather than an adapted garden product.
The piece delivered the branded experience the event needed at a fraction of the quoted cost — combining design judgement with a willingness to physically make the thing rather than only specify it.
Outcome
A branded physical experience delivered in-house, avoiding a high external quote through resourcefulness, cost awareness and hands-on execution.
